Psalm 119:1-8 The Word Psalm Part 1

Psalm 119:1-8 ESV

This series is a direct teaching on the psalm itself. It will not be devotion. This is about learning the Word of God, from this Psalm, pointing to the New Testament. The more we know His Word, the more we know the Father’s will for our lives in Christ Jesus.

119:1 Aleph Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the LORD!

Obediance to the Gospel opens the doors for peace, joy, life, freedom, privileges, health, purpose, protection, prayers answered, as well as spiritual, physical, and material prosperity. All set to glorify The Father, His kingdom and His people in Christ

Material Prosperity mean godly needs and wants, not our greeds.

Psalm 119:2

Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart,

Seek God with your whole mind, thoughts, goals, desires, and ambitions. Do so through His Word.  His Spirit will help you understand it, apply it, and see it come to pass in your life.

Psa 119:3 who also do no wrong, but walk in his ways!

Living in sin is not part of the Christian way and character lifestyle. We may struggle with sinful strongholds. We may fail from time to time. However, they can be defeated and be destroyed in Christ. We will always have to battle the flesh. Thank God we have the Spirit and the Word to bring it into subjection through Jesus Christ.

Psa 119:4 You have commanded your precepts to be kept diligently.

When God commands us to obey His word, it is for our benefit and good. We do out of relationship by faith.

Love is our motivation to do this. God loved us first.  We in turn obey Him in love.

Psa 119:5 Oh that my ways may be steadfast in keeping your statutes!

The Holy Ghost gives us the power to live the Christian life. He keeps us on the right track so we don't have to feel bad when we fail.

Psa 119:6 Then I shall not be put to shame, having my eyes fixed on all your commandments.

No shame in obeying the Word of God. No disappointment when see the godly works of righteousness brought about by the Holy Spirit.

God given hopes come to pass. Joy consistently fulfilled. The reason we obey the Father in Christ is out of love.

(My notes with inspiration from Albert Barnes Notes on the Bible)

Psa 119:7 I will praise you with an upright heart, when I learn your righteous rules.

We don't learn the Word of God for our thoughts, but our words and deeds as well. We put them into practice everyday.  In every situation and circumtance.

Psa 119:8 I will keep your statutes; do not utterly forsake me!

The Lord does not forsake His saints that seek and obey Him by faith in Spirit and in Truth. If we do our part by faith, He will do His by part by grace through the Holy Spirit in Christ.
